1) Can the JAL filter be used for arsenic mitigation
The JAL filter modular design can easily incorporate simple techniques for arsenic mitigation.
2) What about chemical remediation?
The JAL filter does not improve chemical quality, so polluted source water containing industrial or chemical contamination should not be used for JAL filter treatment.
3) Can the JAL filter be built to a larger or smaller size?

4) What materials can the filter be made from?
Galvanised tin, plastic buckets, clay pottery and other local materials.
5) What type of sand is used?
Ideally, sand from crushed rock. Avoid contaminated riverbed sand.
6) What is the size of mesh to sift the carefully graded sand?
Sift the sand using 16 mesh - 1.6 mm window fly screen.
7) What is the depth of the standing water layer?
5 cm.
8) What is the height of outlet pipe?
Bottom of pipe should be placed 5 cm. above the sand layer.
9) How much does the top cistern hold?
The top cistern holds approx. 15 litres of water.
10) How much does the bottom cistern hold?
The bottom cistern holds approx. 35 litres of water.
